Badminton is surely a household sport that kids these days enjoy a lot. With the rise of stars like PV Sindhu, Saina Nehwal, HS Prannoy and Kidambi Srikanth, the sport has started to enjoy a better following. The effects of which seem to have gotten the better of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee too. ‘Didi’, as she is popularly known, was seen playing badminton, a video of which was uploaded on her own Facebook account and it has since gone viral.
Dressed in the usual white sari, Mamta was seen donning a green shawl as she got herself busy in an extremely interesting doubles badminton match. The skill level can’t be argued with either as Mamata rallied with her opponent while refusing to give away a single point. While Mamta was already known for her passion for arts, including painting and poetry, her skills in the badminton court showed another side of the multi-talented Trinamool Congress chief.
Not many are aware of the fact that the symbol of Mamata’s party is also believed to have originated from one of her artworks. In 2018, the CM had also sketched an image of the Goddess Durga as she inaugurated a puja pandal in South Kolkata.
“We love sports. A token game in a village,” Mamta captioned the video as she impressed many of her followers with her game and sporting abilities. Here’s the video:
In less than 24 hours from posting it, the video has got over 5 lakh 25 thousand views on Facebook. The Chief Minister was recently present at the Jangalmahal Cup the Rangamati Sports Festival in Birbhum district in West Bengal.
A politician isn’t often seen in the playground, but this badminton break must have been a welcome break for Banerjee who, just like most politicians, is always busy with the political campaigns.
