Holi for Bollywood has been a grand affair. Every year, Bollywood celebs ring in the festivities with a lot of pomp and fervour. Holi has also been an intergral part of Hindi films and songs. It was yesteryear’s actor Raj Kapoor who introduced the practice of organising Holi parties in the film industry and the fraternity has been following it till date. Amitabh Bachchan, Ekta Kapoor and Shabana Azmi are among those who usually host the grand Holi bash every year.
However, with the sudden death of Sridevi, Bollywood’s first ever female superstar, just a week ago, Bollywood will not be celebrating Holi this time. The actress who died due to accidental drowning on February 24 in Dubai has left the nation in a state of shock. It would only be natural for everyone in the fraternity to respect the departed soul by not celebrating the festival of colours so close to her untimely demise. Shabana Azmi took to her Twitter handle to share the news that she has cancelled the Holi celebration that was slated to take place on March 2. On the other hand, Green Acres CHS Ltd, the housing society where Sridevi resided, also issued a statement that read that they’ve cancelled their Holi celebration in the view of the demise of the superstar.
Amitabh Bachchan, who has shared screen space with the actress in more than five films, is deeply affected by her sudden demise. Last night, he tweeted, “Get back .. get back .. just get back .. to love”. Seeing his remorse, it seems unlikely hat he will be celebrating the festival at his residence this year. Sr Bachchan made a special appearance in Sridevi’s comeback film, after a long hiatus, and fans got to see the Khudagawah pair together after a long time. We still can’t come to terms with this loss. At this moment of grief, we hope and pray that the family finds the strength to cope with the loss.
